Innovation is at the heart of many a definition of community cinema and rightly so. A horse box can be a cinema. A minivan. A town hall. There are many fine examples across the country of cinephiles doing it well.

Ahoy! We are so thrilled to be hosting the book launch for the first instalment of three books; Ron Neish's 'Leith-Built Ships, They Once Were Shipbuilders' in association with Whittles Publishing.

In November, we were delighted to host a fabulous party for the special unveiling of a portrait of Leith legend, Mary Moriarty, and to share the reveal alongside the Queen of Leith herself! We’re still celebrating the fact that Leith Theatre is the permanent home for this amazing piece of art.

Over the past month, Leith Theatre has had the privilege of hosting a series of awe-inspiring performances, giving us a tantalising wee glimpse into a future that once felt so far away but is now beginning to seem like a tangible reality.

Leith Theatre Trust took over the management of the Leith Theatre complex in January 2016 and our volunteer programme started in August that year.

We are having some difficulty with our heating here at Leith Theatre and have had to take the decision to postpone the screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol this Wednesday. We will show it next Wednesday instead; same time; same festive fun!

We are delighted that the Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund is to put in £190,000 to enable a music programme to take place in Leith Theatre as part of the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF).

People living in the Greater Leith area can make their voices heard by voting for Leith Theatre to receive funding for local projects close to their heart and home!

Our campaign to revive the Leith Theatre has received a welcome boost with £1m of funding confirmed in the City of Edinburgh Council’s capital budget for 2018-2023. 

85 years ago this week Leith Theatre, or Leith town Hall as it was then called and the adjoining Library opened their doors with an official opening from the then Lord Provost Rt. Hon. Sir Thomas B Whitson. The art deco space was for its time state of the art.

LEITH THEATRE IS TRANSFORMED! THE TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS AT HIDDEN DOOR FESTIVAL WITH SOME SUPPORT OF LEITH THEATRE'S VOLUNTEERS HAVE SPENT DAYS AND EVEN MONTHS TRANSFORMING THE MAIN THEATRE SPACE, DRESSING ROOMS, CORRIDORS AND THE THOMAS MORTON HALL.
